Meekah Wright is about to be awarded the Matt Coulter kangaroo Kid trophy for her gallant effort over the weekend at the 2017 Polaris Australian Atv Mx Titles. At Murray Bridge South Australia. She will be the 4th winner of this, which has been won in 2014 by Eloise Pound, 2015 by her Older sister Taylah Wright and 2016 by Tilly Austin
Meekah did a phenomenal job coming away from the event as the Number 3 Girl in Australia in both her race classes, 7th overall in 7 to under 11 Limited (60cc to 90 cc 2st/85cc to110 cc 4 st) on her Polaris Outlaw 90 and 9th in 8 to under 12 Comp (60cc to 90 cc 2st/85cc to 125 4st) on her Apex Pro Shark Mxr 90.
She competed against the best junior quad riders from South Australia, Victoria, Northern Territory and Western Australia, with over 2days of 5 round races in each class.
She was up against some very tough competition, who live and breathe Atv MX racing, with some competitors racing every fortnight and training during the week.
Budgets are anywhere up to $100,000 for a season, on some high powered quality race quads.
Having no Motocross or Dirt track racing this year, she was really out of her comfort zone, and it was only lucky for her that Quads are now practising at QVMX Bidadabba. This gave her a chance to use this track to her advantage and train hard to prepare her for the challenge that she faced.
The kids she raced against were far superior, with their skills and race machines however this did not bother Meekah as she was there to have a great time and be a part of the awesome annual event.
She put her head down, got her starts perfect, she concentrated on cornering and maintaining traction, as well as maintaining speed, all of which worked well. She avoided some big crashes, started and finished all races and set about climbing the points ladder with consistency, managing to get a 5th place in one race.
For a 10 yr old, Meekah has a great mindset for racing and she rode her heart out over the weekend. She did her Club ( Mike Hatchers JMCC) and Queensland Proud.
After travelling nearly the 6000 km journey from Murray Bridge to the Gold Coast and back in 4 days, there is no rest just yet, she has now entered into the first-ever event in NSW under MNSW, involving Junior Quads.
She will be Travelling to Grafton for the Jacaranda Dirt Drags, along with Junior quad Racers who will be competing from Mike Hatchers Quads and Karts,
Her Focus now is Preparing for the 2018 Australian Atv Mx Championships in Collie Western Australia.
She will be training with her Teammate Maddi and gaining skills on an MX track. We will also be making sure these girls quads are fully prepared to take it to the big budget teams in this sport.
Meekah has a family of support behind her;
"Now we know what is needed for Meekah and Maddi to challenge for race wins, our focus will be taking our team to the next level, ensuring they have the best chance possible and making sure we have the appropriate funds needed for this to happen. Her love for this sport is what drives her passion, she loves to achieve goals she put in place.
Meekah works hard and always puts in 110 percent effort, she is a perfectionist and loves sharing her knowledge to help others improve and enjoy the sport as well.
