Gold Coast-based former motocross pro Luke Styke made an instant impact in his new career as an off-road racer, winning the E1 category on both days of the opening weekend of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC).

The Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Team rider took an eight-second win on the Saturday at Miva, and stretched that to 27 seconds on the Sunday.

Fellow Queenslander Fraser Higlett shared the podium with a third place on the Sunday, after an up-and-down Saturday.

In the E2 category, Victorian Daniel Sanders reigned supreme, while Matt Murry was the first Queenslander home on both days in seventh on both days.

Daniel Milner dominated the E3 category, with Kane Hall the first of the Queenslanders in second.

Lachlan Stanford bounced back hard from eighth on a troublesome Saturday to be second on Sunday, with Hall sixth.

Luke Styke; “Today went really well and I ended up winning my class. We made a few changes to the bike over the weekend and they were beneficial. I didn’t have much nerves about my first AORC race, I’ve worked super hard over the off-season. The track today was a lot tighter than yesterday but our setup worked so well on Saturday so we maintained it.
