One-time Team Honda enduro racer Ricky Madden had a highly productive reunion with the bike he once raced on the Queensland enduro and Pony Express circuit, when he powered a 1985 Honda XR600RF to victory in the Vintage class of the A4DE.
Madden was four seconds behind Aussie enduro legend Geoff Ballard on Day 1, then topped the sheets every day after Ballard’s Maico expired with gearbox problems, winning the final motocross on Saturday by more than 25 seconds.
“Awesome. The I was riding this is the exact bike back in the day,” said Rick. “It’s a good, reliable machine.”
Another well-known Queensland enduro regular, Ashley Sprenger, was just as solid in third place on an ’84 Maico.
Madden thanked his wife, as well as long-term sponsor Ken Wilson, who was with Madden all week.
“Thirteen years Ken looked after me for, so he’s not just a sponsor, he’s a best mate.”
