CONQUERING THE ROAD RACING CHALLENGE
Hard core talented and not yet 20, Jarred Brook is a super fast dirt tracker from Gympie with an exciting, on-the-limit style. Right now though, he's determined to become a crazy-fast road racer as well.
A fortnight ago the multiple Australian dirt track championship winner proved his transition to the tar had reached its highest point yet, at a national-level event when he was one of two star riders in the 400cc class (Keo Watson was the other). Brook got to the chequered flag first in four of the six races across the weekend, and fell with a two-second lead while leading in the fifth, after pushing too hard on worn tyres.
He was unlucky not to win the day, but more importantly, Brook felt the closest he ever has to stretching a road racing motorcycle to its limits. It hasn't been a simple transition for the apprentice builder, who has had to completely adapt his throttle heavy, rear-wheel-steering style to something more compatible with 400cc Supersport.
"That last round was really good to us. Four wins, and a second (and a DNF) was a really strong showing. I tucked the front while leading by 2.5 seconds - I was asking a bit too much of old tyres in one of the tighter turns and I went down. But I'm getting more and more comfortable with the lean angles and just learning how to be not as aggressive as I am on the dirt. "Even my setup has continued to evolved the whole time I've been racing - early on in the piece I was running a lot softer, but now it seems like I'm stiffening my suspension every ride. And then the faster you go you need to go stiffer again."

I ride a motorcycle because: I love it and I hope to make it my daily job.
My bike is a: KTM450SXF and what I love about it is the smooth power delivery and the way it handles. I know that I can put that bike in whatever line or slide I want and know what it’s going to do. That’s an unreal feeling having the confidence like that.
My discipline of motorcycle sport is: Dirt Track and Road racing, the thing I love about both of them is the speed.
The biggest high I ever got from competition was: traveling to America in 2016 to race in the AMA Amateur Dirt Track Titles and coming home with winning three AMA titles and the prestigious Nicky Hayden Dirt Track Horizon award.
My favourite track/place to compete is: the dirt track venue in Mildura Victoria. It's one of the best in Australia - it’s always prepared great and the track is fast and super grippy.
The people who taught me the most about my sport are: My Dad and Paul Caslick.
The people whose backing makes all the difference to me are: KTM Australia, without their continued help and support I wouldn’t have been able to achieve some of the results that I have achieved so far.
Outside of my motorcycle life I: work as a carpenter in the family business.
You might be surprised to know that I: drink a lot of coffee.
This year my goal is: A top five in the ASBK 300 supersport championship.
And I'll achieve those by focusing on: practising on the KTM RC 390 and working on my fitness with gym and cycling.
