QLD Motocross Championship Wrap Up

Round 2 Hervey Bay

Author: Karly/Tuesday, July 31, 2018/Categories: State News, State Results

2018 FXR Qld Motocross Championships Round 2 Hervey Bay saw some spectacular racing from the Premier QMX1 and QMX2 Championship classes all the way down to the 50cc class.

Hervey Bay put on spectacular weather conditions to make this an awesome treat for the spectators over the whole weekend.  With all classes of racing over both days the youngsters in the 50cc could watch the Queensland premier riders show what talent we have in our Sunshine State.

Round 2 results saw Ward and Barham in the lead with Zak Small, Mason Rowe and Marshall take out the top 5 overall places in the round.

With North Queensland rider Caleb Ward making another clean sweep in the points for round 2 he took out the overall Championship from last year’s No 1 rider Toowoomba’s own Kaleb Barham who had to settle for the number two spot.  Our Queensland veteran ace normally hanging from his bike grips upside down and doing backflips stunt rider Robbie Marshall came a very respectable 3rd outright in the Series.

The QMX2 Championship class saw some surprising results with young Jayce Cosford taking out a win in Race one of the event.  With Cosford only recently coming from the junior ranks he is showing he has what it takes to mix with the big guns.   Unfortunately our Queensland riders could not stop the formidable Bailey Malkiewicz, another young gun from over the border taking out the round win over Queensland’s own Zak Small and Kaleb Barham.

The overall QMX2 Championship was won by Bailey Malkiewicz (border raider) with Zak Small in 2nd, Kaleb Barham in 3rd overall.

Our Junior classes also had close racing with some of these champions and runners-up only having one or two points the difference between their placings.  Consistency overall showed for our young top guns.

Levi Rogers in the Junior Lites 2/ and Junior Lites 4/ 13-14 years had a perfect score of 35 for each of his races to take out Junior Number 1 Plate and Qld Junior Rider of the year.  He will have the opportunity to retain the crown for the following year with another year in the junior ranks.

Noah Ferguson took out the Junior Lites 2/ and Junior Lites 4/ 15 years honours.  Young Walker was looking to change the outcome with a Race win in both classes but injury sidelined him for the remainder of the event.

The 85cc 9 to Under 12 years was a thrilling battle between the three hot shots of Braden Plath, Jet Alsop and Koby Drew battling out all three races but Alsop lived up to his name and the Jet finished overall in top position for all three races.

All of the competitors in all of our championship classes put on a great display of racing and we will look forward to some great racing in the following year.
