Round 1 of the Airoh Sunshine State Motocross Series will take place this weekend February 16th and 17th at the Suncoast Junior MX Club venue – off Quanda Road, Coolum (follow the "Mens Shed" signs)

With 350 participants entered and riders from as ar away as the Northern Territory and far North Queensland making the trek, the commitment of these riders and their families is anything but in doubt.

Many competitors have been hard at work planning routes to circumvent recent North Queensland flooding, and will travel even longer distances than normal to meet the competition in moto combat.

A mountain of Australian motocross talent will take the line over the course of the weekend, including former World Championship warriors, fully half a dozen current Australian motocross champions and Cairns' own World Junior Champion, Braden Plath.

With a hungry horde of hyperactive rising hopefuls intent on using the established stars as either benchmarks or targets, it's a recipe for ferocious, full-throttle elbow-to-elbow racing not to be missed.

Among those to watch will be new-to-seniors Jai Walker and Noah Ferguson mixing it in QMX2, while in the QMX1 class, MX Nationals riders Todd Waters, Richie Evans and previous series winner Joel Rizzo will set to working establishing the pecking order for 2019.

The Airoh Sunshine State Motocross Series has long been respected as a great breeding ground for riders wishing to improve their race craft and lift themselves to a national level.

And there's no better device for facilitating this growth than the nationally-renowned Coolum Pines track. With it's predominant sand base providing a technically difficult and physically challenging battleground, Coolum allows the riders who've done the cardio work, and are smart enough to read the fast lines as they emerge, a chance to stand tall.

The Qld Motocross Subcommittee would like to thank the hosting club and all of our Series Sponsors who continue to raise the profile of this motocross series, and have done so for more than 25 years, in particular Moto National, Airoh Helmets, Five Gloves, Shell Advance Oils, Link International, Pirelli Tyres, States MX Wheels, MX Store, FXR, MPE, TCX Boots, Southside Auto Group, Civil Skill Assessment Service and LSKD.

Late entries are still being accepted with closing date extended until tonight 11 pm.
