The subject of today’s In Focus is Peter Black, former road racer and nationally and internationally experienced road race official.
He’s not huge on talking about his contributions to the sport, but we managed to squeeze a few words out of him. These are they:
Name Peter Black
Q1: In your officiating life, what track and in what role are we most likely to find you?
These days you will find me at Queensland Raceway in the control tower several days a week, running both Car & Bike events.
Q2: How long have you been an official and what other capacities and/or locations have you acted?
I’ve been volunteering for around 10 years, starting out in Race Control for ASBK, then working my way up to Level 4 Clerk of Course & L4 Technical Officer (Scrutineer). I’ve worked at most tracks from The Bend in South Australia to Proserpine in North Qld, including MotoGP, WSBK, ASBK, and many many Club & State level events.
Q3: How did you come to find yourself officiating?
Being an ex competitor I wanted to give back a little to the sport, but it got a little out of hand LOL.
Q4: What keeps you coming back?
These days it’s the people involved & it’s a good way to ease into retirement.
Q5: Who is the most amazing rider you’ve encountered along the way?
Two of them actually. Mike Jones & Troy Herfos. Both fierce competitors on track, but gentlemen off it.
