Today’s Member in Focus is Billy Gough, current Queensland Trials Vice-Champion and sometimes trials coach and trials performer for Flair Action Sports. We thought we’d find out a little bit more about him.
Question 1: In your role, at what venue and in what role are we most likely to find you?
BG: I try my best to attend as many events as I can throughout the year, the majority of the events I compete in are local to the SEQ region, however I travel interstate to compete in state or national events. You’re most likely to find me as a competitor, but I always lend a helping hand to coach whenever it may be requested.
Question 2: How long have you been a supporter of the sport and what other capacities and/or locations have you acted to do so?
BG : I was four when I first started riding trials and had a passion for it since the beginning. Apart from coaching or competing for trials I also take part in performing stunt shows with Jack Field riding for Flair Action Sports, where we perform trials shows anywhere from some place local to anywhere across the world. Promoting the sport is what we love and continue to do endlessly.
Question 3: How did you come to find yourself in this role?
My dad took me to my first event when I was young and it picked up from there, I rode consistently until I was a young teenager.
When I got older and gained more experience in the sport clubs started to reach out and ask me if I’d be able to help with coaching other riders and I always gave them a helping hand.
I had known Jack Field for a while but never really rode with him myself, not until I messaged him and asked if he wanted to have a practice ride together where he was very welcoming and an overall good friend. Not long after Jack reached out and we have been performing shows since.
Question 4: What is the attraction? What keeps you coming back?
It started with making little improvements within myself which made me love the sport more and more striving my self to get better and better. However once I got to the point wether I was coaching or performing for an audience, it’s the people that have the grin on there face giving me the rush to keep on going.
Question 5: Who is the most amazing rider you’ve encountered along the way?
It would 100% be my Father Justin Gough. He is a 15-times side car Australian Champion with many other high level results, all while raising and teaching me everything along the way. He has been my role model since the beginning.
