Today’s Member in Focus is Brittaney O’Brien, the Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club member who recently became the Aussie Track and Dirt Track Champion for the first time.
Let’s find out some stuff about her.
Name: Brittaney O’Brien
Age: 30
Born: Gosford, NSW
Lives: Bowen, QLD
Occupation: Coal Sampler
Member in Focus: What were the influential moments in your motorcycle journey (e.g. people, bikes, disciplines, tracks, results):
Brittaney: My brothers have been a massive influence for me. Growing up watching them do flat track until their mid teens. And now one of my older brothers has gotten back into it the last few years along side my 3 out of 4 sons that ride now so we have travelled to not only watch but give my boys the same experience and childhood I had growing up.
MIF: Tell us a little about your bike, and how you feel about it:
Brittaney: I Currently have 2023 CRF450R. Love it to bits. Honda girl through and through, always have been.
MIF: Please unpack your most recent racing success for us:
Brittaney: Highlight of my racing would have to be taking out not only the QLD Track & Dirt Track Championship of 2024 but the Australian Dirt Track Championship 2024! Absolutely Insane!!
MIF: Do you consider your class a competitive one, and what do you most enjoy about the people you race with:
Brittaney: Absolutely. The Women’s class seems to be growing and growing. The last few big events we have had 2 heats of women which is fantastic to see and hoping it stays this way or even gets bigger. It’s unreal to see women in this sport. I love that 99% of these women love and support one another, encouraging each other, giving tips to each other. It’s Great!
MIF: What does being a motorcycle competitor mean in your life:
Brittaney: They say racing motorbikes is an individual sport. I disagree. It’s definitely a team effort. To travel, to get the bike ready, the clubs and volunteers for all the events, the family and friends support and time and effort. Its a phenomenal lifestyle which I am lucky enough to experience with not only my husband and sons but my family and friends.
