Last year’s Aussie champ, Ky Mitchell, from Jarvisfield, near Ayr, will go toe-to-toe with over a dozen other hyperactive teenage throttle jockeys as they vy for this year’s Australian U16 125cc Speedway Championships at Kingaroy Showgrounds on September 28/29.
Fifteen riders will hunt for the Individual crown while 14 competitors, including four teams of Queenslanders, will shoot it out for the Best Pairs title.
And best of all? Spectators will get to see every slide and every roost for free. There is no entry fee to watch this awesome event.
To give the stars of tomorrow a shot at the limelight, the mighty Pee Wee 50s will serve as the support act.
In the premier category, #1 plate holder Ky Mitchell will battle to keep hold of the title, before teaming up with Redbank Plains rider Corey Van Elswyk to try to win the Best Pairs.
Rider introductions both days take place right after practice at 10.30, with competition kicking off at 11am both days, and going until around 3pm.
“We’re pretty excited to have an Aussie title in a small country town, ” said Kingaroy Club spokesperson Tracey Tunstall, “with a good chance the local boys could do well. There are plenty of good vantage points from which to watch the action, and there’s plenty of shade and a canteen full of tasty food.”
